Steps to take after graduation for PR

Hi everyone,

I just completed my 2-year masters degree at a designated institution which allows me to obtain PGWP. I want to obtain my PR as soon as possible. What are the best options for me at this time?

I appreciate any guidance you could give me or point me towards the right direction. If you need any further information please let me know and I'll provide.

According to my experience there are two main pathways that students so through to obtain their PR's after graduation:
1- Canadian Experience Class (CEC) which requires that they find full time jobs and work for at least a year.
2- Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) which the requirements differ from province to province. Typically these are possible if you have a qualifying job offer from an employer in the province and have good score on the personal things.

I'm currently in BC and have been planning to find a full-time job here.
Of course, if there is a better province which increases my chances of obtaining a PR I am willing to consider moving.

BC has a very good skilled worker PNP program. Many of my friends got their PR's through this path.
Do you currently have a job offer from an employer there or are you working now?

Yes, BC PNP is probably the best option if you don't currently have one year of full-time work experience.
The best thing you can do to increase your points is to find a job outside of Metro Vancouver. The BC PNP now gives a lot of points to jobs that are situated outside of Metro Van and it's probably the best way to increase your points.

You can be eligible for the 'International Post-Graduate Stream' program if you have if you completed a master’s degree at a B.C. postsecondary institution in one of the following programs of study in the natural, applied or health
sciences:

agriculture, agriculture operations and related sciences
biological and biomedical sciences
computer and information sciences and support services
engineering
engineering technology and engineering-related fields
health professions and related programs
mathematics and statistics
natural resources conservation
physical sciences

I would say just get your PGWP and search for a job you like. You will have enough time to apply for your PR and at this stage finding a job is more imprtant.

You will eventually be able to apply for various PR programs if you have a full time job and one to two years of work experience. Of course, if you find a quicker path to PR you should take it, but I believe you don't need to worry too much about this at this stage.

One bit of advice I heard someone say was that it's even better to go looking for jobs a few months before graduating. This way you'll get a head start and might even be able to have a job lined up as soon as you graduate from university.

Right now I would say the PNP programs are the best bet for students that have graduated. Alberta, BC and Ontario seem to have the best skilled worker PNP programs for graduates.
