How to get the officer's notes? ATIP

A friend of mine who lives outside of Canada had her tourist visa application refused. She received the general refusal reasons but wants to know the exact reasons.
How can she get the officer's notes on her application (ATIP)?

Linden If your friend doesn't have access to her application, for example, she sent it and doesn't have a copy now, I suggest you also apply for getting a copy of everything that IRCC received as part of her application too.
You can do that in the same place you apply for officers notes (ATIP). The reason you should have your previous applications sent is so that you know what was put in there and in the next application you don't miss any info you have previously given. Otherwise, it might be considered a misrepresentation.

As far as I know only a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident can apply for the ATIP notes on behalf of a foreign national. They can't apply for it themselves. Your friend needs to sign a form allowing you to get the notes on their behalf.

Just a heads up, currently it takes about 4 months to get the results of an ATIP request. I know it says a month on the site but apparently because of the high number of requests it's taking far longer

NikitaS Exactly, the time it takes to get the notes is insane!
If you really need the notes fast, your best bet is to file for a judicial review. This is somewhat like an appeal process which you also get the reasons for refusal much faster than the typical ATIP process.
You would probably need a lawyer to help you do this as this is not a simple process and it would cost you. But on the other side, this process could also overturn your refusal. So it's best if your friend consults with someone familiar with this path.

Thanks for the responses. It seems the best way is for me to request it for her. I have no problem doing so. I just want to know can this cause any potential problems for me down the road?

Like, can the government officials start wondering why I would be needing the officer notes for someone else's application?

Linden No, getting the ATIP for a friend will not cause any issues. My friend has done this multiple times for friends and even people she didn't know because they could not request the notes themselves.

I suggest you do it as soon as possible cause it will take a long time these days.

Just another tip. When you are getting your friend to sign the representation form. Make sure your friend uses a blue pen and physically signs the document. They are very strict on seeing the signature and making sure it was signed right.

Just an update here. It's been about 5 months now and I have not received my ATIP request 😪

Same here, I've been hearing of people waiting for a very long time and not hearing anything back from IRCC.
Apparently, other government offices produce the atip results really fast, its just immigration that takes so long.

The funny thing is that I applied for two ATIPs from IRCC on the same day. I got the result from one of the ATIP requests back. That was over two weeks ago, and I still haven't heard anything from the other one, even though they were filed on the same day!
